Information About and An Invitation To Become
A Member
Ontonagon Valley Sportsmen's Club
The Ontonagon Valley Sportsmen's Club is a community based non-profit
conservation organization dedicated to promoting safe and prudent
hunting, fishing, trapping and other recreational opportunities
in the Ontonagon River Valley Watershed Area by enhancing habitat
for those species that are native or traditional to this area. We
participate in activities such as native brook trout restoration
and fish planting projects, cleanup of local streams, brown trout
capture for scientific studies, construction and distribution of
wood duck houses, and act as a forum for local input regarding the
management of our area's wildlife.
The OVSC is a strong supporter of our area youth. We participate
in the annual 6th Graders Camp Nesbitt Program by providing instructors
for their Archery, Black Powder and Shotgun programs. Throughout
the summer, we provide outdoor sportsmen oriented activities such
as casting instruction and contests at local community events. In
cooperation with the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Dept., we sponsor
the Eddie the Eagle firearms safety program which is presented in
our local elementary schools. We sponsor both youth & women's
rifle and shotgun shooting programs during the summer and conduct
youth outings throughout the year. The OVSC also promotes continuing
education thru the Doug Johnson Memorial Scholarship program by
offering $500 scholarships to a young man and a young woman graduating
from any area watershed school for help with their post high school
education or training.
The OVSC also provides sponsorship for area women to attend the
Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program. The BOW program introduces
women to a wide variety of outdoor related activites from photography,
to canoeing, to plant identification to shooting events. The OVSC
raises funds to support these many commitments by holding an annual
Fall Sportsmen's Unlimited Banquet, a Spring Smelt Fry, a Fall Turkey
Shoot, and .....of course.....membership dues. If you would like
to become a member, please mail in the attached membership form
along with $10 (payable to OVSC). Meetings are always held the first
Tuesday of every month with the time and location published in the
Ottawa Shopper.
